Waiting Tables

Waiting tables is probably the most humbling experience I have ever been through. With every new table, every couple, every family, every group of teenagers, a waitress gets a new set of bosses.. a new set of people who think it’s ok to give her their best dirty looks and maltreatment. You don’t get a servant very often. It’s very important to utilize this time wisely. Make sure you make her get you enough drinks, and make sure you fuss at her when you forgot to bring your ranch or your 15th piece of garlic bread. She’s probably not doing anything else anyway.

It’s really great, because just when you think you’ve really ruined her day, you reduce her worth to a mere $2.35.

Esther and Feminism.

So, I’ve been reading Esther a lot lately. I pretty much have a girl crush on her. Which I realize is A) weird, and B) super weird, but every time I read Esther I think, “Esther’s got balls.” Seriously. I always learn a ton reading Esther. I think she’s amazing. I just know there’s some province out there looking for a Queen Katie. A province that just happened to pass a mandate that kills half its people… yeahhhh.

Anyway, I don’t know what else to post on these blogs… So I’m gonna tell ya’ll something about Esther.

1. She was a replacement.

Vashti wouldn’t go into the King’s courts when he called her. I don’t want to be like Vashti. I want to be obedient and come to God when He calls me. I don’t want to have to have a replacement. That being said, Esther had no problem being the replacement. Whenever I am second choice for anything, I always get offended. Second choice doesn’t mean you’re less effective or that you weren’t called to be the second choice. Esther was one of the strongest women in the Bible, and she wasn’t even God’s first choice for queen. I need to make my brain realize that not being first is OK! This is applicable to all kinds of things in life, not just my relationship with God and my purpose in life.

2) Esther appreciated where she came from.

She didn’t live with her parents, she didn’t have that great of a home life. She lived with Mordecai. He took good care of her. She never got bitter about her past. She went on with life. She even helped Mordecai when she could. I think this speaks volumes about her character, maybe it was typical for families to be like that back then, but now a days, children and teenagers are so bitter about their home lives that its the only thing they think about. You gotta get over it at some point!!!

Anyway. I’ll talk more about Esther later. I mean, I am in love with her.
